Questions and answers

  • What certifications or professional affiliations do you have?
  • Blue print reading, Asbestos Supervisor Certification

  • What information do you recommend to have readily available before looking for a professional in your trade?
  • License, bond, and insurance.

  • Tell us about the project or job that you are most proud of (in the last 12 months).
  • We did an addition on Sound View Dr. Tacoma WA.

This house has water view, dumbwaiter, elevator, radius walls, and skylights in the truss work. The ceiling trusses are 24" on center and we wrapped 4 sides of each truss using 4 sticks of corner bead per truss.

One of the highlight of this job was the texturing. I thought to myself, why would these people want to ruin the nice smooth wall with orange peel texture?

I textured the job. It was the hardest texture ever to do. Try spraying all of the wrapped trusses not getting too much on the trusses behind the first one and have them all uniform.

  • Tell us something customers may not know about you.
  • I want my customers to have a decent job done for them. I know that construction is expensive and I believe that they deserve quality.

  • What types of jobs are the most common?
  • Remodels, repairs, additions, add-ons.

  • How did you get started?
  • I have been in the industry 14 years. I got started as an apprentice and learned on the job. When times were slow, I did small projects and side work. I eventually opened my business in 2004.

I have been in business going on 8 years.

My customers over the last 8 years have taught me so much about how to deal with people. Just being good at drywall doesn't make a business run smoothly or produce the chemistry that makes a good business.

  • What questions should a customer ask before hiring a professional in your trade?
  • Do ]you guarantee your work and for how long?

What exactly does the guarantee cover?

Let me give an example. Many times we do work for general contractors and site superintendents on new construction projects.

There is no heat in the building we are working in. Because we are dealing with drywall and mud work the manufacturer's warranty is void if the conditions are too cold.

We embed tape using a joint compound that needs to thoroughly dry before we continue with our additional coats.

If it isn't completely dry then when it dries, cracking can happen. This cracking can take up to 6 months before it is noticeable even longer when its been painted.

  • What do you wish customers knew about your profession or trade?
  • How messy it is. There are a lot of people who aren't prepared for the remodel and then when the time sanding comes, they are regretting the experience.

We do use dust curtains and dust control compounds but there still is dust.

  • How many projects do you average in a year?
  • Last year, we had between 180-200 projects. We run on average 4 jobs a week. Some jobs are large where others are as small as patch repairs or demos.

  • What are the most frequent questions you get from customers? What are the answers?
  • Q. How long will the job take?

    A. Depends on if there is heat, fans, if its a basement (they tend not to dry as well). We can do a new two-story house from start to finish in 10 days.

    Q. If we install the drywall, how much money can we save?

    A. It all depends on how well the board is installed. If there are a lot of blow outs around electrical boxes, can lights and bad cuts, then there is more work and cost going toward taping and finishing work.

  • What would you recommend customers looking to save money?
  • Not to attempt to do the drywall themselves.

I look at so many jobs from customers that started to do the drywall and then gave up.

Many times, the board isn't installed correctly which causes a difficult time when mudding it and then there is the customer that attempts to do the mud work. They use the heavy muds, or hot muds and then it comes time to sand it and they call around trying to find a company to come and fix it. The company goes in and charges a lot for the straightening up of the mess.

  • What brands or products do you work with?
    • Beadex
    • Certentee
    • Hamilton
    • USG
    • Sherwin Williams

  • What areas of your trade do you specialize in?
  • Drywall. We specialize in all drywall-related work.

    • Installs
    • Mud
    • Tape
    • Texture
    • Drywall demolition
    • Plaster repairs
    • Wall repairs
    • Ceiling repairs
    • Overlays
    • Specialty textures
    • Sound board
    • Ceiling soundproofing
    • Patch repairs
    • Water damage wall board repairs
    • New construction
    • Additions & renovations
    • Fire taping
    • Orange peel texture
    • Knock down texture

    And more.

  • What services do you provide your customers after the work has finished?
  • We floorpaper all of our jobs. Whether its a concrete slab or sub-floor and carpet will be going on it.

After working in the industry and knowing how messy drywall is, its easier to just roll up the floorpaper when we are done. It makes life a lot easier for any of the flooring trades or home owners when we are done.

We do a complete clean-up before we leave the job.

Affordable Construction Drywall Services , John Glover

We recently used this company for a basement remodel job in West Seattle. John showed up and reviewed the project with us and was careful to make sure that he understood what our expactions were for the completed project. He was very friendly and easy to talk to and answered all our questions and concerns. He later sent over a well written bid that detailed all pricing. We felt that the pricing was extremely fair and something that would work for our budget. His team showed up on time and completed the job in a timely manner and did a remarkable job. We were extremely pleased with the end results. Once the job was completed, John did a final walk through with us to make sure everything was done to our satisfaction. When the project was finished, his crew did a fantastic clean up job - our basement looked great! Also, when we received our final invoice, the pricing was consistent with the inital bid. No surprises at the end. This company is extremely honest and fair and does exceptional work. We would recommend John and his crew to our family, friends, and neighbors without hesitation. Try them ,you won't be disappointed.
    Thanks John

I used Affordable Construction to Sheetrock my ceiling, which expanded to most of my home. I used them because they were affordable, but I knew nothing of their work.

The work they did, to me, seemed very good. I was not aware how good until other contractors commented to me how well the work really was. The work crews were attentive and accommodating. I will definitely use them again for future Sheetrock work.

John Glover and his team at Affordable Drywall Construction did an excellent job on our extensive and challenging home (era 1906) renovation. This project was a lot to take on, and of course, we were on a strict timeline and budget. John and his amazing team went above and beyond to make sure that every square inch of this 3,500+ sq ft project was completed to the highest standards--on budget!

Everyone at Affordable Drywall had a very professional, friendly, and positive attitude. They were careful and respectful of our home and always left a tidy work space. I highly recommend Affordable Drywall Construction, and I fully intend to hire them again when we finish the basement.

John and his crew helped us with a remodel of our laundry room and garage. John was very responsive to our inquiries and courteous when replying. He has indicated that if we have problems, he will return and correct them. At this point (1 week post job) that hasn't been necessary and I don't anticipate that it will be in the future. If, by chance, we do need him to come back, I trust that he will be true to his word.

The paint crew took exceptional care with my belongings and left absolutely no mess. I was very pleased with the cost and level of professionalism. I would recommend them to anybody needing drywall repair and painting done.
