Questions and answers

  • What certifications or professional affiliations do you have?
  • I am fully insured. I have one million dollar coverage general liability insurance. I also carry workman's comp insurance.

I will provide references that a customer is free to call and ask what kind of work I do.

  • What are the most frequent questions you get from customers? What are the answers?
  • What kind of a warranty do you offer?

The warrantise vary by manufacturer. The warranties also vary depending on what kind of service is provided. If the company you want to hire can't give you a straight answer on their warranties, DO NOT HIRE THAT COMPANY.

  • What areas of your trade do you specialize in?
  • Garage door and garage door opener sales, service and installs

If you have an odd size opening or a very low ceiling then give us a call. We specialize in reframing and low headroom doors.

  • What information do you recommend to have readily available before looking for a professional in your trade?
  • The customer should know if they are wanting to fix or replace the garage door or garage door opener when they finally decide to have a company come to their residence.

  • What do you wish customers knew about your profession or trade?
  • Servicing or installing a garage door is very dangerous. If you are not trained then do not service or install a garage door on your own. You can get hurt.

  • What services do you provide your customers after the work has finished?
  • ANEW Garage Doors provides full warranties.

Warranties depend on what product a customer purchases.

Warranties also differentiate between fixing your existing garage door or garage door opener and replacing your garage door or garage door opener.

  • What questions should a customer ask before hiring a professional in your trade?
  • Always ask what is included in the price you are being being quoted.

Always call around to get prices from other companies.

  • How did you get started?
  • I began servicing and installing garage doors and garage door openers just over a decade ago. I soon found out that I was good at it and enjoyed servicing and installing garage doors and garage door openers.

  • What brands or products do you work with?
  • LiftMaster and Chamberlain are the only brands of garage door openers I will sell.

I will install another brand of opener that a customer purchases.

  • Tell us something customers may not know about you.
  • I own a garage door company not only to profit from it, but also to provide a quality service at a reasonable rate.

  • How many projects do you average in a year?
  • "Projects" or jobs as they are called in the industry vary from two jobs a week to twenty jobs a week. January through May is usually the slowest time of year. This is also the best time of year to get a good deal on service and new door installs.

  • What types of jobs are the most common?
  • The most common type of job on a garage door is a broken spring.

There are many other problems that can go wrong with the garage door. The springs are usually the first thing to break. When you do have a company come out, ask the company to look over your whole garage door before doing the work to see if there is anything else wrong with the door. Then have them give you a final price before starting the work.

  • What would you recommend customers looking to save money?
  • If fixing your door seems a little expensive ask what replacing the door will cost. The price of a new garage door may help you to save alot of money in the long run.

If you are having a company come out at least once a year to fix something on your door you should probably just replace the door. The warranty on a new door usually outlasts the warranty that you get when your door is serviced.

  • Tell us about the project or job that you are most proud of (in the last 12 months).
  • I just did a job in Minneapolis in the middle of April 2012 where I removed two almost 100 year old tip up style garage doors. After I removed them I had to re-frame the openings to fit two 8' wide by 6'9" tall garage doors. The reason for this height on the new garage doors is the ceiling height inside of the garage wouldn't allow two new garage door openers to fit, so I had to drop the doors down three inches to allow the room I needed to get the garage door openers to fit.
