Questions and answers
- What are the most frequent questions you get from customers? What are the answers?
How much does it cost? This is a very difficult questions to answer without an investigation to the site. If it's a room addition or second story, we can quote the current average square foot price for this type of work.
- What information do you recommend to have readily available before looking for a professional in your trade?
Personal referrals are always the best. If one doesn't have that, than to go through the BBB, other contractors, the internet by trade specialties. Than check out their referrals by calling them and even visiting the projects being referred if the owners are OK with this level of referral.
- How many projects do you average in a year?
We typically average about 30 small projects being under $15,000.00 and about 6 projects over $40,000.00 to $100,000.00.
This current ecomonmic slump has changed this somewhat and it's to early to know how that will change our historical averages.
- What brands or products do you work with?
Only standards of the industry. We never work with discount or Chinese imported products. We use only high strength concrete design mixes to insure there is no cracking in our concrete pours.
- What areas of your trade do you specialize in?
We specialize in inspections, reports, designs, and repair of foundation-problem homes.
We also are an award winning Design Build construction company. In 2011 we won the 2010 Best total remodel of the year in the San Diego Home and Garden Magazine.
Our job sites are always clean and respectable.
- What types of jobs are the most common?
Poor surface and roof drainage problems that cause foundation and hill side failures. The second most common is poor workmanship that has resulted in very expensive damage to the property over a 5 year period.
San Diego landscaping companies are the biggest contributors to poor workmanship and the lack of skill and knowledge of proper surface and roof drainage.
- How did you get started?
When I came to San Diego in 1983, I was looking to start in construction and took about a year to look around to see what was a excellent nitch market. I found it in the Foundation, Drainage and Landslide repair portion of construction. Very few in San Diego new how to repair foundations and the ones that were repairing had some serious problems in their technology. I pioneered the functional version of small diameter pipe pilings through the city of San Diego in 1983 to 84. The rest is history with an excellent high integrity reputation to match.
- What services do you provide your customers after the work has finished?
A ten-year no-nonsense warranty against workmanship defects. All materials are warranted by the manufactures' warranties and limitations.
- What certifications or professional affiliations do you have?
BBB, CSLB, CEO Space, Kronerstone Konnection, Fixr, and many more to many to list all here.
If you wish any further info on this, please contact me.
- Tell us something customers may not know about you.
We offer the highest quality craftsmanship, materials and construction technology in San Diego. Our engineers, designers and workers are the finest in the industry. We train our employees to operate at a higher level of competency than is typical of San Diego. We take great pride in delivering to our customers their dreams come true in design, quality, longevity and craftsmanship.
- What do you wish customers knew about your profession or trade?
How to differentiate between quality work and craftsmanship verse the lower standard of work that is pervasive in San Diego. When I first came to San Diego in 1983, I was shocked at the low quality of workmanship and skill levels of the local contractors. To this day it has not improved very much. What I notice is people are willing to except a lower standard of workmanship in San Diego.
- What would you recommend customers looking to save money?
To have three plans to choose from. The first being everything on their wish list. The second being a more conservative this will do very nicely option and third this is our bare minimum of what will work for us. This planning technique will help clarify the customers needs verse their wants.
- Tell us about the project or job that you are most proud of (in the last 12 months).
We are currently repair a landslide job in San Diego. It took us 6 months to get through the city of San Diego's building Dept. with all the new code and protocol issues that were installed about 12 months ago. Our client is very happy that we were able to address every obstacle the city put before this project. We addressed every engineering concern with high quality documentation. The new policy's of the city is no longer supportive to the home owner in getting a permit, but focused on fees that can be charged to get the permit, which means stringing the permit process out. This should have been a 40 to 50 day permit and it took 6 months.
- What questions should a customer ask before hiring a professional in your trade?
Are you fully insured with worker's comp and general liability insurances?
Do you sub out work?
What parts of the job do you sub out?
