Questions and answers

  • Tell us something customers may not know about you.
  • Bergh has worked as a factory representative for:

    • Kimball
    • Conn
    • Bosendorfer
    • Pramberger
    • Young Chang
    • Samick
    • Krakauer
    • Kohler and Campbell

And others! And now, he is available to serve you.

  • What are the most frequent questions you get from customers? What are the answers?
  • How long is this going to take?

An average tuning takes 90-120 minutes. I only charge $88. That's a dollar a note, and easy to remember! If there are sticking notes, action adjustments or any other minor problems that can be done during the timeframe, they will be done without an extra charge.

If a piano has not been tuned for over 3-4 years or more, a double tuning may be required. If so, I never begin without consulting the client. A double tuning is $150. See all my pricing information on my website.

  • What brands or products do you work with?
  • I work with all brands. I have even worked directly with most manufacturers, having access to their factory and expertise of their workers. In one instance, I was the National Director of Sales Training for Young Chang America & Pramberger, holding seminars across the country with technicians touring with Joseph Pramberger, the designer himself. Joe was a VP with Steinway for 30 years. We spent numerous hours together discussing pianos, business and life.

I tune all versions of verticals and grands.

  • What would you recommend customers looking to save money?
  • I offer a referral program for all my clients. For any referral you give me, that has tuned their piano with me, I credit $11 towards your next tuning. If you refer 8 people, you get a free tuning. This is especially helpful for piano teachers, churches and music dealers.

  • What do you wish customers knew about your profession or trade?
  • Your piano should be maintained twice a year, especially when you start running your air or heat. After about five years, you might opt to tune it once a year, after it has stabilized by tuning the first five years of it's life every six months.

For music schools, churches and teachers it may be more often, depending on use. I have several large churches who have a quarterly maintenance schedule.

  • What questions should a customer ask before hiring a professional in your trade?
  • How long have you been doing this?

When I first started tuning, in the eighties, it took me much longer to hear the unisons. It is an acquired art-form and listening process that takes time to gain proficiency. I use a Peterson Tuner along with my ears. I also play a bit once I'm done to tweak notes that may have dropped during the process.

  • What areas of your trade do you specialize in?
  • I am an entertainer, composer and piano instructor in addition to a piano technician. I create studio tracks for songwriters and have produced and release numerous CD & DVD projects.
