About English Language Masters

Do you experience difficulty writing college admissions essays or employment cover letters? Does your child struggle with English grammar or reading comprehension? As your private English tutor, English Language Masters has an utmost goal to help you find your voice in the language that we love!

My name is Joseph Varkle and I hold a Bachelor's Degree from the University of Michigan and an MFA in screenwriting. I currently teach English at an after-school enrichment program developed for Korean-American students. I have also tutored disadvantaged children through the Los Angeles Unified School District.

At the University of Michigan's Sweetland Writing Center, I helped undergraduate students improve their proficiency on term papers, admissions essays and creative prose. Many of my clients are international students struggling with ESL issues, and I have been rigorously trained to accommodate cultural learning differences.

A patient listener and friendly communicator, I am eager to take on any student's challenges and help him or her uncover solutions. I happily work with adults and children of all ages. I can travel to your home, local library or other desired meeting place within fifteen (15) miles of Bloomfield Hills, MI.

  • What services do you provide your customers after the work has finished?

  • I provide unlimited online support, including proofreading and Skype conferences. If a client is working on a single project, such as an essay or business plan, I make sure that we are able to meet all deadlines and any follow-up writing the client requires.

    I believe it is essential to build a strong rapport with my clients and develop a plan for their growth and advancement. With a flexible schedule and quick response time, I strive to be my clients' best ally when pressure is on.

  • What questions should a customer ask before hiring a professional in your trade?

  • Beyond requesting the tutor's basic credentials of education and experience, a client should always present his or her specific needs at the first meeting and request a "trial run" to see if the tutor will be a good fit. For this reason, I always offer new clients an initial 30-minute session free of charge. This exercise helps me assess their needs and helps them decide if I am the right person for the job. I bring a copy of my formal resume to all initial meetings and address specific questions at that time.

  • I specialize in English and ESL writing, helping my clients build strong voices on the page. In addition to mastering the English grammar, I help clients develop persuasive, well-supported essays and eye-catching creative copy. Whether a client needs to structure his twenty-page thesis paper or wants to advertise her new business, I am always eager to nurture a new project to fruition.

    In addition, I offer support for reading comprehension, conversational speaking and overcoming writer's block.
