- What are the most frequent questions you get from customers? What are the answers?
Which type of Security Camera system should I have installed?
Security cameras and DVRs come in many different styles, options, and applications. The system that will work best for your application will depend on several factors such as whether you will use the security cameras inside or outside, during the day, nighttime, or both. All of this can be discussed with you during your free estimate consultation.
What are the differences between Bullet, Dome, C-mount, and PTZ cameras?
Bullet cameras get their name from their cylindrical shape and size. They weatherproof can be used inside or outside.
Dome security cameras get their name from their “dome” shape. They are most popular for indoor and some outdoor applications and have several sub styles including vandal proof domes for high risk/crime areas and.
C-mount security cameras were one of the first styles of security cameras in the industry that utilized a camera and a separate, interchangeable lens. These cameras are still available and are popular for outdoor use with a special housing but have largely been replaced by their bullet and dome counterparts for indoor and outdoor use.
PTZ (Pan Tilt Zoom) cameras are a style of dome camera that can be controlled remotely either with the DVR software or with a seperarte camera keyboard and jpystick. These cameras move 360 degrees and can zoom in to capture detail such as lisence plates, facial features and more. Advanced PTZ's also have "Auto Tracking" technology which detects motion in the cameras field of view. Once motion is detected, the camera will automatically follow and zoom in on subject. These camera can also be set up to ignore common movement of trees or passing traffic on a busy street in the background.
What is infrared or “night vision” on security cameras?
Infrared security cameras are very popular as they allow an image to be seen in little or no lighting conditions. Most infrared security cameras are bullet or dome style and can be used inside or out. The cameras have infrared lighting installed around the outer edge of the lens which allows the security camera to see in no light for up to 150 feet - even further with a little bit of light (like street lighting or an outside light.) The infrared light produced by the camera in invisible to the human eye but is picked up by the camera. So while a criminal may not be able to see the camera in the dark….It can see them! Most bullet and dome cameras have infrared as a standard feature.
A relatively new type of security camera to the market is the True day / night security camera. These types of security cameras have an extra sensitive imaging chip and lens filter which allows it to capture a good picture in low light situations without using infrared LEDs. This is especially handy in outdoor applications because infrared security cameras do not do as well in outdoor housings. Unless the infrared security camera is installed flush up to the glass of the housing, the infrared lights can reflect off of the glass of the housing which can degrade the image.
What surfaces can Front Range CCTV’s cameras be installed on?
We can install cameras on almost ANY surface including drywall, drop ceiling tiles, brick, concrete, masonry, and steel. Depending on the look of your preference, the wires for that camera can be run through walls, above a drop ceiling or on the outside of a wall, in conduit.
How long does it take to for Front Range CCTV to install a camera system?

As an example a typical 4 or 8 camera system installed in a small retail store or office can be installed in as little as 8 hours. Larger 16 or 32 camera systems installed in multi-level buildings or large expansive facilities/warehouses can take anywhere from 3-5 days. This installation process also includes the configuration of the system as well as end user training.
