Questions and answers

  • How did you get started?
  • In 1996, I started doing lawn work for a little extra money. In 1999 while in Ohio, I started with my first professional company. Through the next 13 years I worked for different companies in Kansas depending on the season and the need for workers. After seeing how many of the companies treated their workers, and how they over-charged their customers, I decided to start my own company to show people how things should be done.

  • How many projects do you average in a year?
  • Depending on the season, weather, and manpower, Landers Lawn and Landscaping averages eight (8) Landscaping projects per year. Every year is different, because I always seem to find a customer that wants something unique done.

  • What information do you recommend to have readily available before looking for a professional in your trade?
  • This is a very broad question for my trade. Depending on what you are wanting us to do, is what information you would want to have handy. If you wanted your lawn mowed on a weekly basis and were looking for a bid you would want the square footage of your lawn on hand. If you wanted a retaining wall placed somewhere, you would want to have the length and height ready. If it is ornamental flowering, you would want to know what kind of plants you want or at least what color layout you are looking for. The more information for a landscaping job you have ready, the closer we can get to finding a proper bid and proper plants and product for your individual project.

  • What questions should a customer ask before hiring a professional in your trade?
  • How much experience do you have? That is one of the most important questions you can ask when it comes to landscaping. Ask for references and some form of portfolio.

  • What services do you provide your customers after the work has finished?
  • We offer call back services. What that means is we will come back and repair damages caused by Mother Nature.

Even if it's something like your child has managed to knock a stone or two loose on a landscape project. With our lawn maintenance program, we offer more than just mowing.

If there is any way we can make your grass stronger and greener, all you need to do is call.

  • What areas of your trade do you specialize in?
  • Lawn maintenance, sod, cleanup, Christmas decor, retaining walls, fence repair, shrub and tree trimming, and more.

  • Tell us about the project or job that you are most proud of (in the last 12 months).
  • One of the projects that I am most proud of this season was a stone patio that was placed in a customers back yard. This was an especially difficult job due to the concrete surrounding the patio was not level, nor was it smooth on the sides. Another obstacle we had to work around was tree roots that were bulging out of the ground at the edges. After The patio was finished, I sat with the homeowner and negotiated a price to have sod placed around the patio to complete the back yard. Once the sod was laid and settled the backyard finally had a completed look, which is something the customer had wanted for several years.
