  • We specialize in remodels, additions, and smaller new construction. We offer pricing on these services that makes them affordable for the average homeowner and contractor.

  • What would you recommend customers looking to save money?

  • Good lighting can save you a lot of money. Efficient fixtures can significantly reduce your electric bill. We put light only where it is needed, so no unnecessary fixtures. We create layers of light that you can change to meet the needs of what you are doing, so you only turn on fixtures that match your task.

  • How did you get started?

  • I have a degree in theatrical lighting design. I did freelance work on the East Coast for four years before moving back to the Pacific Northwest to start doing residential lighting. I worked in lighting retail and consulted informally before starting luminous nw in 2011.

  • What are the most frequent questions you get from customers? What are the answers?

  • Q. Aren't lighting designers really expensive?

    No, they don't have to be! Depending on your scope, good lighting design can be very affordable. And planning always pays off sooner.

  • What information do you recommend to have readily available before looking for a professional in your trade?

  • Drawings or blueprints of the project.

    A basic understanding of how each space will be used.

    Some design or theme ideas for the project.

  • What services do you provide your customers after the work has finished?

  • A written report of all lighting options discussed. Aiming/focusing of applicable lighting fixtures. Photos of the final product.

  • What do you wish customers knew about your profession or trade?

  • Without light, nothing is seen. When developed alongside structure and interior design, lighting lets all facets of the project come to their full potential. Also, light affects humans in powerful ways, and good lighting designers have studied how it affects us physically, psychologically, and spiritually. They can then apply this learning to you and the environment you spend your time in.
