Questions and answers
- What are the most frequent questions you get from customers? What are the answers?
As videos producers we make assumptions about our customer or potential customers knowledge base and usually it wrong.
Most customers have to educated about the entire video production process and walked through it by taking baby steps.
At first glance the video production process might seem overwhelming. My job as a producer is to remind my customers that we are going to take baby steps all the way through producing there video step by creative step. In the end they are pleasantly surprised how painless it is.
Actually the usual first question is "how much will it cost." My first response is "what is your budget" because if I know their budget I can custom fit the "production values" to work within the budget designated.
If they don't have a budget I become an interviewer picking their brains about their company, their goal, audience etc. Its really a lot of fun!
- What brands or products do you work with?
I work with all top of the line high definition video, audio and lighting equipment.
Sony, Avid, Panasonic, Sennhieser, Lowell, Arriflex, HMI, Boris EFX, Adobe After EFX, Photoshop etc.
- What information do you recommend to have readily available before looking for a professional in your trade?
Today in the video production industry there are many many video people who claim to be producers directors. This is not the case. The true professionals such as Matrix Video have worked on all types of productions in many different circumstances. First, we're business people and look at telling your story from this perspective. Most production companies come at you first from the technical aspects of video, we do that after we know your story and act first as a consultant. Once we accomplish this we move into the creative technical aspects of video production.
- What would you recommend customers looking to save money?
I would tell a customer looking for a video production company to hire experience, not technical experience but sales and marketing experience gleaned from years of producing video across all industries. When you use our services you are working with a group of producers that have worked with C level managers telling their stories in a script before any video is shot. Remember the script is the blueprint for the video. If you have a script that tells your story you'll have a great video in the end. Again, don't shop price, shop experience.
- What areas of your trade do you specialize in?
We specialze in all areas of video production including concept development, scripting, video capture in HD and editing. All the services you need to complete your video and get it distributed on the web all at very competitive pricing.
We also offer soup to nuts web casting services for any size audience anywhere in the world
- What do you wish customers knew about your profession or trade?
I tell all my customers that scripting is the most important part of production. This where you start to build your story. The scripting process allows one to start to build your story form the ground up. If all are in agreement with the script the video fall into place. The script is the blueprint for the video. Would you build a house without a blueprint? I think not. Same goes for video. Producing a video good video should not be left up to anyone that has a camera.
- How did you get started?
I developed and interest in video production when I attended a series of seminars presented by Jon Alpert. Jon has produced hundreds of documentaries for HBO. After attending the seminars I decided to enroll in film school at the School of Visual Arts in NYC. I graduated from there with a BFA in Film making.
During attendance at SVA and after I worked as a freelance cameraman and lighting director. After freelancing I worked as cameraman/editor in an advertising sales department producing commercials.
I formed Matrix Video to offer high quality, cost-effective video production services to those who recognized the power of television hence video.
- What services do you provide your customers after the work has finished?
Once we produce your video we provide digital media files for you to post on the social networks.
If your company is interested in much higher visibility and want to get eyes on your company we offer you our full digital media distribution network. What we do is use your target audience and viewer interest information and place your re-purposed "videomercial" an tag it on the front of the videos that your audience is selecting. This service comes with full analytics. You'll know who is watching your video and when. The return rate is 80% with fantastic ROI!
- What certifications or professional affiliations do you have?
I'm a member of the national association of broadcast engineers and technicians, National Association of Broadcasters.
- Tell us something customers may not know about you.
My work stands out because of my years of experience working directly with talented experienced video production specialist from script writers to producers. My work also is highly effective because over the years I have produced video for experienced professional marketing, sales, and corporate educators. Working with these professionals allowed me to understand their needs and expectations that in the end is seen in my customers videos.
- What types of jobs are the most common?
Web video production is becoming the norm. It is now rare that my customers ask for DVDs.
Because most viewers don't have the time and shortened tension spans video have gotten shorter and shorter. Two minute videos have become the standard. There are exceptions such as conferences and educational/training videos.
When we do web casts the presentations are usually made available via VOD ( video on demand )
That's the power of video it can be viewed over and over with the same powerful message.
- Tell us about the project or job that you are most proud of (in the last 12 months).
I'm proud of most of my projects because I get to meet intelligent interesting people in a wide range of industries.
This year I've working on projects for the fashion industry, infomercials for product start up companies, videos for an international security firm, web videos for a national organic food market, videos for a medical equipment manufacturer in clinical trials, a fitness company, dozens of videos for a Chinese product manufacturer.
- How many projects do you average in a year?
My project frequency varies from maybe 30 to 75 per years. I not interested in quantity I'm interested in giving my customers videos that tell there story so when one is finished viewing the video they know exactly what the the company's message was.
- What questions should a customer ask before hiring a professional in your trade?
