Questions and answers

  • How many projects do you average in a year?
  • Between window cleaning, power washing, gutter cleaning, deck staining, and handyman work, we average 500-750 distinct job sites throughout the year. At many job sites, however, we perform multiple services for that one specific jobsite.

  • What brands or products do you work with?
  • When it comes to window cleaning, we are quite fond of the Unger and Etore lines of squeegees and cleaning accessories. As for power washing, we stand firmly behind our 16hp Landa belt-driven commercial pressure washers as well as a series of smaller Honda-based engines for appropriate jobs.

  • What questions should a customer ask before hiring a professional in your trade?
  • Are you fully insured?

What kinds of people work on your crews?

Do you provide an exact arrival time or a large window during which you might arrive to begin working?

Are all materials costs included in your estimate?

What methods do you use to clean windows?

Do you guarantee streak-free windows upon completion?

  • Tell us about the project or job that you are most proud of (in the last 12 months).
  • Every year, we wash windows in several large commercial locations, as well as quite a few eight-thousand-square-foot-plus homes. It takes a crew of organized, dedicated workers to complete jobs like those in a timely manner and with the same quality we expect on our smaller jobs. Every time we finish one of those larger jobs, I am proud to walk the job site and see that glass sparkle in the spring sun!

  • Tell us something customers may not know about you.
  • We believe in giving our energy and skills back to the community that provides us with a living. Several of us are frequent volunteers for the United Way and the American Red Cross.

  • What services do you provide your customers after the work has finished?
  • One week follow-up phone calls to make sure everything went well with our work crew

No-questions-asked touch-up service if our crews left ANY window not 100 percent streak-free or siding not as clean as it can be, etc.

  • What information do you recommend to have readily available before looking for a professional in your trade?
  • It is helpful to have a rough idea of the size of your home (in square footage) when it comes to window cleaning and power washing. Also, for projects like deck staining, it's helpful if you have put in a little forethought about the type of finish and color you imagine for your deck.

  • What types of jobs are the most common?
  • Combination window cleaning and power washing services at the same home. It makes a lot of sense to clean the siding/exterior of your home then get the windows cleaned off right away as well.

  • How did you get started?
  • Our president and CEO, Brian Maynard, originally began working for a window cleaning business called The Window Doctor in the late 1990s. Eventually, he purchased that business and grew it into the PhD Maintenance Group.

  • What are the most frequent questions you get from customers? What are the answers?
  • Do you take your shoes off and use drop cloths when working inside my house?

    Yes!

Do you offer weekend appointments if needed?

    Yes!

  • What areas of your trade do you specialize in?
  • Professional residential window cleaning, power-washing, gutter cleaning, and deck/wood staining. We also offer year-round small-project handyman services such as faucet installation, flooring, re-securing loose hooks, moving/hanging cabinets, and all of those little items on your honey-do list.

  • What certifications or professional affiliations do you have?
  • We are members of two local chambers of commerce. Previously, when we oferred carpet cleaning services, we were members of the IICRC, a nationwide certification program for residential carpet cleaners.

  • What do you wish customers knew about your profession or trade?
  • The cleaning contractor industry has a bad reputation for unreliable, unprofessional service members whom you really don't want in your home. We would like people to know that there is another way to run this business, and that's our way. You will have nothing but the most polite, respectful crew members in your home!

  • What would you recommend customers looking to save money?
  • Split the work up among yourselves and our company. We are perfectly happy, for example, to wash either only the second story/high windows on your home, or just the exterior, while you handle the safer interior/low work. Alternatively, if you're looking to have some handyman work done, purchase the supplies yourself and have them onsite, waiting for our crew. This saves us time, which saves you money in labor costs.
