About Sharp Guitarworks

Jake Sharp is an accomplished luthier and designer. He has been obsessed with music and guitars since he was 16 years old. After trying to fix his father's old Kay arch top and afterward trying his hand at fretwork on a brand new Ibanez semi-hollow, he thought he'd better learn how to do it properly!

Jake attended Roberto-Venn School of Luthiery in Phoenix, AZ from 1999 to 2000. He learned all he needed to know about standard guitar design and building. Jake is an expert with modern aesthetics and the practical design elements made for the performing musician. You can overload a guitar with pearl inlay, triple ply binding and lovely curly woods, but if it doesn't hold up to performances day in and day out, it's not a good design.

After school, Jake began running his own repair shop (Sharp Guitarworks) and has performed hundreds of setups, fret levels, pickup installs, and electronic repairs. The experience has been invaluable in shaping his approach to functional design.

  • The main question to ask any would-be guitar tech is, "How long have you been in the trade?" I would also recommend asking, "What is the most demanding service you offer?"

  • What services do you provide your customers after the work has finished?

  • My warranty is 6 months on most non-wearable services. All setups are warranteed for 3 weeks and simple tweaks are free.
