Questions and answers

  • What certifications or professional affiliations do you have?
    • Screen Actors Guild — American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA)
    • The National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS Certified)
    • The Manhattan Association of Cabaret and Clubs (MAC)
    • The North American Music Teachers Association (NAMTA)
    • Broadcast Music Inc (BMI)
    • The Recording Academy (The Grammys)

  • What areas of your trade do you specialize in?
  • Rachel customizes each lesson with each student's individual goals and learning styles in mind. Whether working in a private or working with a group class (small by design), Rachel is able to focus on each student's individual needs & develop their skills (singing, acting, & performance) at a comfortable pace. She challenges each person without intimidation.

Specialties include: Bel Canto Singing Technique (Sing all genres), Master singing with a healthy "Mix" (Light and edgy), Legit, More Range, Vocal flexibility, better breath control, Sound like "you" but better "you", Stella Adler- Stanislavsky-Chekhov Acting Technique for Theatre/Camera, Performance Skills, Stage Presence, Songwriting, Mic technique (while performing live and in recording studio), & Musical Theatre.

  • What do you wish customers knew about your profession or trade?
  • Rachel Menconi is a voice, acting, performance technique teacher, NOT a pianist or vocal coach. A voice teacher teaches technique & a vocal coach plays piano well but doesn't teach technique.

  • What would you recommend customers looking to save money?
  • Come in with an open mind, try not to judge or compare yourself to anyone else but to your own progress. Don't give yourself a time table in the beginning, just enjoy the process. Pay attention, take notes, and don't be afraid to ask questions. There is no such thing as a stupid question. Everyone gets frustrated while using this technique in the beginning. Don't get discouraged. Always try your best at any given time and you will see progress in no time. After you get passed the first Plataea, it gets a little easier. First you have to understand the correct concepts in your brain before your body can start working in the right way.

  • What services do you provide your customers after the work has finished?
  • A selective group of students will perform in a tailored performance to showcase the entire cast's best talents. Past shows have been performed in NYC and NJ venues.

  • What brands or products do you work with?
  • SINGING:

We use Bel Canto singing technique but for the modern singer. No one sounds like old opera singers, even if the student wants to sing opera. They are allowed to chose most of the material they learn in the lesson. There will be times when Rachel will suggest a song to a student but if the student hates the song, they will work as a team to find a song that does work for the student.

    ACTING:

We use Stella Adler, Stanislavsky, and Chekhov Acting Technique for Theatre/Camera. All students are exposed to each technique and Rachel sees which technique each student responds to the most. Once the student and Rachel are able to identify the technique, Rachel continues to use that terminology of that technique for the remainder of the time the student is in lessons.

  • How did you get started?
