About Windermere Landscape Lighting

We have twenty-two years of experience in professional outdoor lighting design, installation, and repair in Central Florida.

Questions and answers

  • What questions should a customer ask before hiring a professional in your trade?
  • Ask for and verify valid ELECTRICAL LICENSE. It IS REQUIRED by the State of Florida.

Will the electrical license holder actually be on the job?

Does their insurance actually cover the installation of landscape lighting?

How long have they been designing and installing lighting?

What else do they do besides landscape lighting? Is landscape lighting just a side job for them?

"Licensed and Insured" is used so often that potential clients assume that everything is OK; it isn't..

A licensed and insured lighting installer may simply be lying about having his credentials or may just be a lawn maintenance tech that is licensed to have a lawn care business and insured to cut grass not install lighting. In Florida, landscape lighting installation requires a state issued electrical license as well as electrical insurance. In addition, in Orange County for example, landscape lighting installation requires a county construction contractor's license as well as a bond. We have all of these qualifications and more

  • What would you recommend customers looking to save money?
  • Conventional fixtures are generally less expensive than LED.

Quality will cost you less over the long run.

We offer installation in phases. Lighting up fifteen items in the front yard will not give you three times the effect of lighting up five. Pick and choose what is most important to light and make sure it is a balanced look.

Buy a larger transformer in the beginning and add lights as the budget allows.

We also offer DIY options, which include a discount if the homeowner wants to bury the wire themselves.

  • How did you get started?
  • In 1990, our founder found a need for professional landscape lighting services, and he decided to start a company to provide that service.

  • What information do you recommend to have readily available before looking for a professional in your trade?
  • The ability to verify a contractor's qualifications...

  • What brands or products do you work with?
  • With over 20 years in the lighting industry, we can order just about anything.

We carry lines from Alliance, CopperMoon, Garden Light, Hadco, Kichler, Kim, MilSpec, Unique, and Ushio just to name a few.

We have also sold and installed many special order/custom made or “architect specified” systems from companies like B-K, Bronzelite, Winona, and others.

With our long lasting ties in the lighting business, we can get just about anything you may need or want.

We carry L.E.D. as well as conventional halogen fixtures...

We are happy to discuss all the advantages and disadvantages of each. As with normal fixtures, LED fixtures vary dramatically in both fixture quality and application. All LED products are NOT the same. We still install more traditional fixtures than LED due to the cost vs. savings but LED is becoming more and more popular among our customers. Due to the similar results of our high end LED fixtures, we can also mix and match with traditional for the best overall value. For example, our LED deck lights are only $25-$50 more than our conventional version.

  • Tell us about the project or job that you are most proud of (in the last 12 months).
  • We are proud of all of your projects. Within the last year, we installed a single pathlight for an elderly customer to light her sidewalk in front of her condo. Within the last year, we converted a forty-fixture system from halogen to the top of the line LED. Within the last year, we rewired an entire estate in Isleworth to correct numerous problems from the previous installation company. Within the last year, we installed commercial grade leaf lights on one of the nicest estates in Winter Park.

We are proud of everything we do. If we can't do it right, we don't do it at all.

  • What services do you provide your customers after the work has finished?
  • We have been providing support for our Central Florida clients for over 20 years.

Landscape Lighting is all we do. We do not cut grass or trim trees or install ceiling fans. Day in, day out, we design, install, and repair landscape lighting systems.

We will support our installations as well as tackle others that need help.

We also offer retail sales for the DIY homeowner and system additions regardless of who installed it originally.

We service the Central Florida area: Orlando, Windermere, Bay Hill, Dr. Phillips, Winter Garden, Ocoee, Gotha, Clermont, Oakland, Eastwood, Bithlo, Longwood, Oviedo, Casselberry, Lake Mary, Heathrow, Sanford, Conway, Belle Isle, Maitland, Winter Park, Baldwin Park, Altamonte Springs, Apopka, College Park, Hunter’s Creek, Edgewood, Kissimmee, St. Cloud, Winter Springs, Deltona, Colonialtown, Delaney Park, Lake Nona, Metro West, Isleworth, Lake Butler Sound, Keene’s Pointe, Cypress Point, Phillips Landing, Heathrow Woods, Lake Nona, Bella Collina, Golden Oak and more.

  • What types of jobs are the most common?
  • A good portion of our business is repairing lighting that is old or installed incorrectly.

Our average new system is one to two transformers and fifteen to twenty-five fixtures.

  • What certifications or professional affiliations do you have?
    • State of Florida Electrical License
    • Orange County Construction Contractor
    • Seminole County Construction Contractor
    • Lake County Construction Contractor

  • How many projects do you average in a year?
  • It is difficult to put a number on how many projects we do in a year since they vary dramatically in size and scope of work.

Projects are often completed in phases depending on construction timetables.

We have install systems from five fixtures on a single transformer to two hundred fixtures on twelve transformers.

Every job is important to us.

  • What do you wish customers knew about your profession or trade?
  • There is so much more to lighting than sticking a light in the ground. It really is a delicate balance of art and science.

We have spent the last twenty years learning about this balance on a daily basis.

Installing landscaping or fixing sprinklers does not qualify someone to install landscape lighting to the best of its potential.

In addition, there is a reason that the state of Florida REQUIRES an electrical license for the installation or repair of landscape lighting.

  • What areas of your trade do you specialize in?
