Questions and Answers

  • How did you get started?
I got started in high school in this business working for a builder in my neighborhood. When I went to college I went to school full time and worked full time as well. When I graduated I did some other work but found I liked the building and remodeling business more. I eventually got my builder's license and started my own company.
  • How can we save money hiring you?
I would recommend they listen to their contractor about ways to save money during design period. I would be honest about your budget during design and get a builder involved in the process early. We use 3d virtual design software so you can see before you build. This helps the customer to see the project completed before construction begins. People love it and it helps eliminate costly changes. Put the time into the design and your project will stay within budget.
  • What are you most proud of?
We did an ADA accessible addition on a home for a gentleman suffering from Parkinson's disease. We made it so there were no curbs in shower area. We built around what would make his life easier. They are extremely happy with how the project turned out and tell me when I see them. It has spurned an enthusiasm to do universal design work.
  • What is important to know about your profession?
There are a lot of very reputable contractors that take pride in their work. We work hard at our craft. In Massachusetts we go to continuing education. We can't control the weather.
  • Do you offer any service after finishing the work?
Anything they need. Customers call me for anything. If they need the name of a landscaper or a snow removal company. We provide property management services as well. If customers are going on vacation they ask us to check on their property. We warranty all of our work. Very rarely do they need anything because we complete the work initially.
  • What kind of questions do customers ask you?
"How long is it going to take?" The answer: "How quickly can you make decisions". Customers ask me my opinion on everything from product selection to paint color.
  • What do you recommend to know before hiring you?
You really need to think about your budget. You should design based on function first. Think strongly about your needs are. We tell people to make a wish list of everything you would like to fix in your home. A lot of times we can fit it into your budget. Any pictures showing something you saw that you liked helps get a better visual idea of what you would like.
  • How many projects do you average in a year?
We are very selective on the number we do in a year. I like to be present on my projects because I am hands on. People like having me on their projects as well. I have excellent subcontractors with vast amounts of experience. The need for me to be there every second isn't necessary because of their expertise, but I prefer to be.
  • What we may not know about you?
I have a degree in economics finance from Bentley University.
  • What questions should a customer ask before hiring you?
If they have a builder's license and insurance. They should ask for references. They should ask the builder to be involved up front to help value engineer the project along with an architect if there is one. They should ask how long the builder has been in business. They should ask the builder if they like being in the business.
  • What types of jobs are the most common?
Kitchen and bath remodeling. Additions. A lot of interior face lifts and renovation. Bedroom additions happen a lot as families grow. Basement buildouts and decks.
