For pavers and interlocking block, we often work with Techo-bloc, whose products I have found weather the elements the best. For decks, we often work with the natural woods of cedar or ipe. When installing a composite or PVC deck, I prefer to use Azek products.

At CLC Landscape Design, we employ licensed landscape architects. We also have on our staff Certified Nursery and Landscape Professionals (CNLP). Among our employees we have degrees from Columbia University in New York City, Rutgers University in New Jersey, Syracuse University in New York State, Temple University in Pennsylvania, and the University of Connecticut. We are affiliated with the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) and the New Jersey Nursery and Landscape Association (NJNLA).
The most common jobs that CLC Landscape Design does are jobs that involve multiple pieces, for example if someone is looking for a landscape plan, a patio, some low-maintenance plantings, to have some drainage issues fixed, to expand the level lawn area, and a landscape lighting system. Because we are landscape architects and landscape designers, all of the ideas we propose are based on sound landscape principles. We are skilled at considering multiple options and proposing the best ones. We excel at taking the multiple pieces the homeowners want in their new landscape and coming up with a great landscape plan to accomplish all these pieces in an attractive and cost-effective design.
We offer three options for service after the work as been completed:
Something that customers may not know about CLC Landscape Design, is that most of our employees have worked for CLC for a very long time. We have several employees who have worked at CLC for over 30 years, and most have worked at CLC for over 10 years. We are very proud of fostering a "family-type" atmosphere at our company. Speaking of family, another thing that most customers do not now about CLC is that most of our employees are related. We employ: three father/son combos, one uncle/nephew combo, two groups of three brothers, two groups of two brother, and 10 of our employees are cousins.
I know this is cliche to say, but I wish people knew that you really do get what you pay for in landscaping. Sometimes CLC Landscape Design is not hired because our ideas and our estimates for how we wanted to install those ideas are considered too expensive, especially when compared to less expensive ideas by another contractor. However, very often, I am meeting with these same homeowner's a few years later because the "less expensive ideas" failed in a short time, such as drain systems being insufficient, plants dying or over-growing an area, walls and patios falling apart, etc. Often I hear, I wish we hired CLC in the first place.
I recommend for homeowners to make a list of priorities. Often homeowners know they want some improvements to their landscaping, but they are not sure of their priorities. I suggest homeowners take this list of landscape items, select which landscape items they desire, and then to prioritize the list. Here we go: Swimming Pool, Patio, Deck, Wall(s), Walk(s), Steps, Plantings, Lawn, More Level Area, Fix Drainage Issues, Pond/Stream/Waterfalls, Landscape Lighting, Outdoor Kitchen, Outdoor Fireplace, Outdoor Fire Pit, Shade Structure, Pergola, or Arbor. One further item I suggest, if for homeowner to explore their neighborhood and note any homes whose landscaping they really like. Give this list of addresses to a prospective landscaper and ask him or her to drive by these landscapes to see which style landscapes you like the best.
CLC Landscape Design was founded over 40 years ago by licensed landscape architect Richard Cording and his wife. Rich and his son - Rich Jr. - run CLC today. CLC has been a family business for over 40 years.
Most importantly, ask to see photographs of a company's landscape work. Landscape design and landscape construction should be judged on the finished product.
We install approximately 100 new landscape projects each year. In addition, perform landscape maintenance services for over 100 clients each year. Our company has approximately 25 - 30 landscape architects, landscape designers, project managers, masons, and landscape craftsman. In addition, we employ two full time fine gardeners/horticulturalists to oversee the pruning and plant health care of our clients' landscapes.
For customers looking to save money, I recommend they hire a landscape architect before starting any landscape projects. A landscape architect will have creative design ideas that both save money AND make your new landscape look great. For example, we were recently contacted by a homeowner in New Jersey who wanted ideas for installing 8' tall walls, that we thought would be both ugly and expensive. We suggested not to install the walls, and instead designed a beautiful rockery and planting that not only saved cost less, but looked spectacular. We have been featuring this project in our advertising, and I always find it funny to remember that originally the homeowners wanted these ugly (and expensive) walls. I am very glad they hired us as their landscape architect and we were able to save them money and dramatically improve their landscaping.
We designed and installed an awesome project in New Jersey recently. We design a spacious deck and underneath the deck we installed a dry-space system so the patio underneath the deck stays dry. In the space under the deck, we install a natural stone patio, built-in gas fireplace, and installed an outdoor TV with surround sound speakers. The speakers were built into the ceiling under the deck. The homeowners love watching movies in this outdoor living room, even when it is raining because the are always dry on the patio under the deck!
