What kind of questions do customers ask you?

When I am working at at a party or event, the number one question people ask me is, "How long have you been doing this?" and "So. how did you get into this?" I tell them about my journey from working in education for the New York City Board of Education to my new life in Sothern California as a face painter/henna artist. Most people are amused to say the least. :)

How many projects do you average in a year?

As a company, we average about 700 - 750 parties and events per year. I do face painting, henna tattoos, balloon twisting, etc. at 5-6 parties every weekend during the slow months. During the busy months, I do 8 parties every weekend. I also book gigs during the week, but the weekends are the busiest.

How did you get started?

I started my business in June 2008 when I moved from Brooklyn, New York to Los Angeles. I was eager to start a business that permitted me to be as creative as I wanted to be. 6 years later, my business has grown tremendously and my 4 kids have become an integral part of the business as well. We are a family business and there is no greater joy than being paid for creating art and making people happy.

How can we save money hiring you?

I recommend customers try to hire a professional /artist who will offer great package deals for their parties or events. This is a wonderful way to save money and time. This also ensures that there is something for everyone at the party/event.

What types of jobs are the most common?

Birthday parties are the most common gigs. Hey, everyone has a birthday every year. Birthday parties provide professionals with a huge pool of clients to work with. Bar/Bat Mitzvahs are also very common. School and non-profit organization events also provide us with a decent amount of annual repeat clients.

What is important to know about your profession?

It would be great if more clients knew how much time, financial investment, training, marketing, promoting, purchasing, networking and education a party/event entertainer dedicates to his/her trade. This would help the client understand how party/event entertainers price our services accordingly in order to provide the best services and experience possible.

What do you recommend to know before hiring you?

Customers should know basic information about their party/event before looking for an event/party entertainer:

Date and time of the event
Location of the event
How many guests/attendees will be there
What is their budget for the services

Great questions for a customer to ask are:

How many years have you been in business?
Are you insured?
What is your hourly rate?
Do you offer any package deals?
How far do you travel?
Where can I read some of your reviews?
How far in advance do I have to book you?
What are the services that you offer?
Do you provide any incentives for referrals?
Do you offer any discounts for repeat businesses?

Do you offer any service after finishing the work?

I provide instructions on removing face paints, glitter tattoos, flash tattoos, airbrush tattoos, hair feathers and hair tinsels.

What are you most proud of?

The project I am most proud of is my photography book of body painting. I took an advanced photography class and every student had to produce a photography book at the end of the semester. I shot dozens of photo shoots with models I painted in fun and exotic themes. When I look at the photos I shot, I am excited about continuing my adventures in body painting and outdoor photo shoots.

Denise and her son worked as a dynamic duo to give my daughter and all of her friends (and some of the moms and dads too!) the best face painting and tattoo experience for my daughter's 4th birthday party. They showed up on time, and we live far up in Malibu, and were with us for the hired 1.5 hours. They were tremendous. All of the parents were raving about the work they did. Denise has a way with the kids in working with their personalities to help them sit still while the faces were painted. The designs she did were incredible and so beautiful. The tattoo designs her son did were super cool. And they both worked so quickly as well.I was amazed at how they got all of the kids' faces painted and arms tattooed who wanted them done. We had a big crowd at the party. Denise and her son are very talented. I would highly recommend them to anyone. Thank you Denise!

They were absolutely great to have at our holiday party. The kids were all very excited by the balloons and glitter tattoos that were provided and the parents really appreciated the activity for their children. I would definitely recommend them and hope to use their services again in the future!

Denise was great. She arrived on time and did non stop henna tattoos on very excited girls. She brings books to browse through so you can choose your design and she free hands very intricate designs beautifully. Her assistant was there ready to apply lovely glitter tattoos as well. Such a fun addition to our daughters birthday party. I would highly recommend Denise.
