Questions and Answers

  • What questions should a customer ask before hiring you?
Experiences, educational background, availability and policiesWill the lessons be on pads or real drums?
  • How did you get started?
I began lessons in 1st grade. I saw the high school marching band and knew I wanted to be a drummer...no questions about it.
  • What is important to know about your profession?
It is an amazing job. To watch students grow is tremendously rewarding. I also love to share what I know about drumming.
  • What we may not know about you?
I am a die-hard soccer fan...Liverpool is my team. I also love to build custom furniture. It is great therapy.
  • How many projects do you average in a year?
10-15 projects on average. At least one per month. Hopefully, this year it will double or triple. The biggest project from last year was the website...it continues to be a main focus.
  • What do you recommend to know before hiring you?
You need to know music inside and out. There are no short cuts. You also need to know how to teach. It's not just sharing information. It's motivating the student to want to learn. That is an art.
  • What types of jobs are the most common?
Just setting up shop and teaching. There are no barriers to entry. Anyone can say they teach music. Therefore it is the onus of the student to seek out the right teacher. Do your homework before choosing a teacher. Get references, check credentials, look at the studio, take a trial lesson or two before going all in.
  • What kind of questions do customers ask you?
How long does it take to learn drums. My response is...you can get up and running in the first lesson or two. The basics are not too hard...mastering an instrument takes a lifetime, however. My advice is to be patient and enjoy the ride.
  • How can we save money hiring you?
I can get students to new skill levels extremely efficiently. My systems are time-honored and proven. This will help students save a great deal of lesson money in the long term.
  • What are you most proud of?
My teaching program continues to get better with more services offered, like classes, recitals, and clinincs.
  • Do you offer any service after finishing the work?
Constant support through phone calls and emails, I help them locate bands, I chart out music for them, and all of my drum books are free for students.

I have been using Gary's products for years, and they are everything you need to learn to be a proficient drummer. I recommend them to anyone wanting to become a well rounded, versatile, creative drummer. All his Technique Books are worth buying- there is no "filler" material. I especially recommend "Rock, Funk, Blues Drumming", "Jazz Drumming", "Latin Drumming". His "Foot Clave" book is the best I've seen on the subject- essential reading if you want to master 4 Limb Co-ordination. The Playalong Series is excellent as well! If you buy one, you'll be convinced, and buy more.
