Questions and Answers
What are you most proud of?
We recently completed the wiring of a large custom home for a prominent Real Estate Guru in Laguna Beach, CA. It was a fun project and very extravagant. I enjoy working for great people and having the freedom to implement my creative ideas into a project especially when it comes to lighting.
How many projects do you average in a year?
I would estimate that we complete between 275 to 340 projects each and every year. These include service calls and small repairs which probably account for about 60% and larger projects and return customers that account for the remaining 40%
What kind of questions do customers ask you?
- How long have you been doing this?
- My answer is since 2001.
- How did you get into this trade?
- I told everyone I knew that I wanted to be an electrician. I asked everyone I met if they knew how I could become an electrician and the doors just opened up.
- Did you have to go to school?
- No but I chose to. I went through 4-1/2 years of school before I became a journeyman.
- Do you like what you do?
- I like meeting my goals and to be in business for myself has been a lifelong goal for me. So to answer the question. Yes, I like what I do.
Do you offer any service after finishing the work?
We always offer project followup to ensure that all of our customers are completely satisfied with our electrical services. For most residential jobs we offer a lifetime warranty on all labor and a manufacturers warranty on all parts. We make it a point to reach out to our customers at least twice per year usually via email to offer them discounts on future electrical work throughout the year.
How can we save money hiring you?
Get at least 3 bids from Reputable licensed electrical contractors for your project. Keep in mind that the lowest bid won't always guarantee the best results. Make sure all of the contractors are bidding apples to apples and take time to compare each bid taking into consideration also your gut instinct about each individual.
What questions should a customer ask before hiring you?
Are you Licensed?Do you warranty your work?Do you carry insurance or are you " JUST BONDED"? Most homeowners think that a contractors bond is the same as general liability insurance but it is not. It is a bond in the amount of $12,500 which is the minimum coverage required by the state of California.
I got started in this trade in 2001. At the age of 19 I was working a dead end job at a welding shop as the shop foreman making nearly nothing as a salary. We had a machine go down one day and had to call the electrician to come out and repair the electrical breaker. After I saw how simple it was and how much he billed my boss at the time I decided I wanted to be an electrician. It's all history from there.Since then I have realized exactly why that guy made so much money on one little job. There is a whole lot more that goes into this business than I could have ever dreamed but I am happy doing what I do and can sit back and say wow! I actually completed one of my goals in life. That makes me happy.
What types of jobs are the most common?
We do a lot of troubleshooting and repairs as well as electrical panel upgrades now days with all of the solar power installs. But service calls are by far our most common call.
What is important to know about your profession?
All of the electrical codes and regulations that we have to follow as well as everything that happens behind the scenes. Most people have no idea how much work is involved in getting that little outlet in the wall. Many times what may seem like a very simple installation can actually be several hours of hard work, climbing in attics under houses and fishing wiring in and out of walls all the while trying to protect the customers property and make the finished product look like it was always there..
