Trees are one of the most important renewable resources we have, and it is extremely important to manage our forests properly. Overgrown timber stands create cluttered environments that are unpleasant for wildlife, clog watersheds and increase the risk of large forest fires. One of the biggest issues landowners in Montana face is insect damage. Carefully managing timber stands can help avoid undue tree stress and reduce the risk of an infestation or disease outbreak.
When used judiciously, logging, thinning, and even selective clear cutting techniques can help improve overall forest health long term, as well as create better habitat for wildlife.
King Mountain Forestry, LLC, is a family-run business. We currently employ several full-time workers, including laborers and heavy equipment operators, and we love being able to provide locally based, good-paying jobs for these families.
It is helpful, if you would like to arrange a site visit, to have some general information about your total acreage, types of vegetation, legal boundaries, legal route of access, overall likelihood of ease of access for trucks and equipment, and terrain conditions available. We also appreciate any contact information you can provide for yourself or your designated representatives (such as caretakers or property managers). Letting us know any of these things in advance will help speed the process and enable us to give you the most accurate advice we can as quickly as possible.
It is common for timber and vegetation management companies to schedule jobs months or years out. In addition, some sites will only be accessible or workable during certain times of the year. We recommend clients be upfront about their expectations and ideas so we can discuss what is feasible and what is not so realistic.
Calling King Mountain Forestry, LLC, is a good first step! We can help some landowners to not only save money, but also make money. Here are some of the ways we can assist you:
1. Stumpage payments. If you have merchantable timber on your land and would like it logged or thinned, we would be happy to tour your property and give you an estimate of what we can pay you for it. Even if you have been turned down by other logging companies in the past, our access to a variety of product markets means we may still be able to offer you more money or pay for smaller trees.
2. EQUIP and similar projects. These are small-scale projects in which government funds are used to enable landowners to pay for property improvements. This is a great solution for farms and ranches trying to cope with excessive brush and submerchantable trees.
3. Grants. Our human resources director is a highly experienced editor and former journalist. We can work with clients who need assistance applying for outside funding.
