Questions and Answers
What are you most proud of?
I will mention two projects specifically. The first of them was early this year, was our first project approved with no corrections from plan check and the second one, a project that we inherited from another firm; we were able not only to provide corrections to have it approved, but also we were able to help the contractor to obtain the building permit by taking care of other processes required by LA County before issuing the building permit.
What is important to know about your profession?
It may seem like lines, numbers, notes, details and drawings, but at the end, our job consists of information. From the moment we first meet with you to discuss the project to the codes that regulate the design and construction, to the fees; everything evolves around the proper processing of information. The better informed you are about your project, the less doubts, headaches and wasted time you will face.
What we may not know about you?
For me is more about my costumers than the project itself. Once I am able to understand you and your needs or problems you are facing the better project I will be able to provide to you to solve those issues. Don't be afraid to ask, the more we share the better for you, after all, you will be looking at those walls more than I ever will.
What do you recommend to know before hiring you?
It always helps when you have an idea of what you intend to do. Size of project, amount of work to be done to an existing structure, how soon do you intend to start with the project. Each project is different, even if you don't know where to start, I am here to guide you and suggest a solution so we can start from somewhere.
What types of jobs are the most common?
Our most common projects are room additions, remodels and structures that have been built without permits, to which we are able to prepare plans and them approved so that the owner can keep the structure. Not to forget about tenant improvement projects, from eye threading salons to restaurants and tire shops.
Do you offer any service after finishing the work?
We will be happy to provide them with consultations, modifications to approved plans, digital copies of project, referrals to construction professionals, material providers and other professional services.
What kind of questions do customers ask you?
There are a few questions that I am not able to answer and the two most common are:1-how much does plan check/building permits and other fees cost?answer: each city/county has their way to determine these fees, each project is different from one another, therefore it is quite hard to give an answer to that question.2-how long will it take for my plans to get approved? All questions asked are answered to the best of our knowledge and more than often, your questions help us learn for similar future projects.
How many projects do you average in a year?
We have averaged close to 60 projects a Year over the last 5 years ranging from small room additions, interior remodels, custom homes, landscape design, conceptual design, tenant improvement projects and Code enforcement violation projects.
How can we save money hiring you?
Before contacting a design professional or a builder, take a moment of your time and go to your local building department and ask planning department about your project, tell them a brief description of your project, ask about setbacks, zoning and lot coverage percentage. Many headaches and checks will be saved by knowledge obtained in that visit.
