Questions and Answers
What types of jobs are the most common?
For the past few years it has been rehabs. I find that customers are keeping their home and renovating them. Whether its something as simple as repainting just freshen up the look or making changes in bathrooms or kitchens.
How many projects do you average in a year?
I average somewhere between 50-100 per year. Depending upon the size of the projects.
What kind of questions do customers ask you?
How long have you be doing this? 37 years now
How can we save money hiring you?
I always suggest they get more than 1 estimate to insure that they receive the best value for their investment. When purchasing materials and products do due diligence by researching to determine best value. The most expensive product is not always the best and sometimes if you purchase the cheapest you get what you pay for.
What do you recommend to know before hiring you?
It would be good for a customer to research costs, procedures and just get general knowledge of what to expect so a contractor doesn't attempt to sell them a bunch of bull. I don't like salesmen, what I try to do is educate the customer on his project to provide enough information that he can make a decision based on knowledge not on hype or the efforts of a good talker.
Do you offer any service after finishing the work?
We provide a warranty and a maintenance option. the maintenance option is at no additional cost unless customer calls us to do a new project. For instance customer hires us to paint entire exterior. we can return each year and power wash house to increase the life of the paint job while we are there we will inspect for any beginning troubles for only $125.00 or say over time the sun beats down on an area. we can come out to refresh just that area this way the customer keeps a good long lasting paint job and doesn't have to shell out money for another complete job.
What is important to know about your profession?
Sometimes, well most times customers don't understand the steps that's needed to efficiently complete their project. For example the manpower it takes, how weather effects projects even if inside sometimes. And no matter how much effort a company puts forth to make them comfortable it is after all a construction project.
I started out as a painter in 1977. In 1985 I started my own company over the years I branched out into basement finishing trim carpentry flooring ect.
What questions should a customer ask before hiring you?
How long have you been in business? How long have you been doing this work? Are you insured and licensed?
What we may not know about you?
I do business with honesty and integrity. I do not and will not try to make the customer spend more money than what is needed for their project. I usually offer different options so they can choose which one fits their budget.
What are you most proud of?
I began an interior paint job and shortly after I got started we discovered excessive termite and water damage in the front of the house. We had to stop the painting and demo the drivit ( fake stucco) and build three temporary walls to re-construct the front of the house. We then installed vinyl siding in place of the drivit. We then completed the interior painting. But the reason I am proud of the project was not the intense work but that the fact that the contractor I was doing this for cut me $3500.00 but I completed the project for the customers sake. Like the word of GOD says a good name is rather chosen than great riches. Even my crew stuck with me until the end.
